Twin sisters Riya and Sara Kapoor made their Rangapravesh, or onstage debut, on Saturday, December 12, 2015 at Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in a show they called “A Night of Moves.”
A performance 10 years in the making, the duo performed a brilliant interpretive dance routine, Bharatantayam, to a live score of a Carnatic Orchestra and a New York Jazz Quartet. The Bharatantayam, is a method of dance that requires the mastery of dance, music, theater, mime, iconography, geometry and mathematics.
The performance was attended by over 1,100 friends, family, and other notable attendees, including legendary jazz great George Wein, who influenced the original score to the performance. Younger brother, Kavi Kapoor, narrated the intense journey the sisters experienced in preparation for “A Night Of Moves” between each set, while also sharing his love & admiration for Riya & Sarah.
A remarkable show that George Wein stated, reminded him “of the majesty and ethereal beauty of all women.”
